Loft Boarding, Ladders & Hatches - Suffolk

The Loftman Company

The Loftman Company has been installing loft hatches, loft ladders and loft boarding in Suffolk for over 25 years, transforming Suffolk lofts into more usable areas and creating a safe and secure space to keep your belongings.

Our 5-star reviews on Trustpilot show how we are the first choice for lofts in Suffolk, and are the leading loft specialist in the UK. We are well-established and our experience in all aspects of loft works speaks for itself.

We have completed over 30,000 installations for lofts of all shapes and sizes and have all the accreditations needed.

What we do

Specialising in loft ladders, loft hatches and loft boarding, we can help to repurpose your existing loft into something that works better for you. We will work with you to determine what that looks like for you personally, and adapt accordingly.

Our range of loft ladders has something to suit everyone, and our loft hatches and loft boarding will help to insulate your home as well as make your loft a more practical space. We use energy-efficient materials for all our products, reducing heat loss and your carbon footprint.

Additionally, we can add insulation of varying thicknesses, NICEIC approved electrics and a velux or keylite roof window to make your loft a much more enjoyable space to use.

Loft Services

We provide several services to help our customers maximise the space in their homes.

Moisture-resistant, durable, safe and sturdy, our 18mm thick loft boarding, is the perfect choice for adding a level of desirability to your loft. Our Suffolk customers have been delighted with the flat surfaces and smooth finish the loft boarding creates, as well as recognising that it can enable extra storage space. Manufactured in Scotland, our loft boards are high-density and high-performance, so you can rest assured that the work we do will last. Our loft boarding support systems come with a lifetime guarantee, rest assured we won’t void any new build house warranty either.
Loft hatches may not be something you have ever really thought about, but an old or badly-fitted hatch can mean you are losing heat from your Suffolk house and letting in draughts. Getting it replaced with a new one – which can be designed to be larger than your current loft hatch to give you more room to manoeuvre – will likely save you money in the long run as well as being more aesthetically pleasing. Our drop-down loft hatches are easy to open and close and are fitted flush to the ceiling so that they are unobtrusive and blend into their surroundings.

When climbing up into your loft, you want a loft ladder that feels safe and sturdy – especially if you are carrying bulky items to put away into storage. Our pre-manufactured and bespoke loft ladders come in either wood or aluminium and in a variety of styles and rung widths, so we are sure to be able to find something to suit your requirements.

Folding away quickly and easily, our loft ladders mean going up into the loft is no longer a chore, needing strength and physical flexibility. You, and the ladder, can be up and down in just a few moments, every time.

Our expert team are fully trained Velux Certified installers, meaning all Velux windows are installed to the highest standards. Whatever your budget or project, we will have the perfect window for you.

Whether it is additional lighting you need for your loft, additional electrics or rewiring, our professional electricians will be able to help. With over 20 years of experience and a NICEIC registered company, we can cater for even the most demanding jobs.

Using loft lining will make your house more energy efficient, keeping heat from escaping from your roof. If you are using your oft for storage, it will also protect your belongings from any chance of damp damage.

Properly insulating your loft can provide savings on energy bills and help protect stored items within your loft by helping to provide a steady air temperature. We use Earthwool® glasswool which is provided by Knauf, using up to 80% of recycled glass. It also uses ECOSE® technology which is a sustainable, bio based binder  that contains no added formaldehyde.

Installing balustrades or loft handles will help improve the safety of entering and exiting your loft as well as preventing accidents around the loft hatch, giving the owner peace of mind.

Adding shelving to your loft is a cost effective way of increasing storage in your house.  The storage solutions puts items in easy to reach locations, while providing the perfect solution for a cluttered house.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Interested to learn more about The Loftman Company and our wide range of loft services? Take a look at our most commonly asked questions below.
For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
