The Loftman Company

The Loftman Company has over 25 years of experience in loft installations in Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas. In that time we have completed over 30,000 installations and laid in excess of 450,000 square metres of loft boarding.

Our 5-star reviews have led us to be the leading loft specialist in the UK, and this is a title we don’t take lightly. We continue to provide a 5-star service at competitive prices, whether you want better access or improved storage for your Wolverhampton loft space.

What we do

Our loft boarding service for homes in Wolverhampton will increase the useful capacity of your loft, adding handy extra storage solutions and making the floor of your loft more stable and moisture-resistant. The addition of a velux window and electricity makes the space even more versatile and practical.

We also install high-quality loft hatches and loft ladders to make accessing your loft easier and safer, whatever your requirements.  The products we use are all energy-conscious and thermally efficient, including adding layers of insulation to make your home warmer.

Loft Services

We’re passionate about helping our customers in Birmingham make better use of their properties, with services including:

Our moisture resistant 18mm thick loft boarding is perfect for creating a steady surface on which to store your belongings, as well as a floor you can walk across with ease. We offer full or part boarding for all shapes and sizes of loft in Wolverhampton, and no job is too big or too small.

Manufactured in Scotland, our loft boards are high-density and high-performance, so you can rest assured that the work we do will last. Our loft boarding support systems come with a lifetime guarantee, rest assured we won’t void any new build house warranty either.

Loft hatches have previously often been thought of as being draughty and letting out all the hot air from your Wolverhampton home. But, our loft hatches are designed using thermally efficient materials and airtight fixings so that no hot air can escape. They are also fire-rated and improve insulation using polyurethane and expanded polystyrene in various thicknesses, to actively increase the U-value of your property.

Our loft hatches are unobtrusive and drop down from your ceiling easily and smoothly, so gaining access to your loft has never been easier. We will measure, cut and fit a new loft hatch, and can increase the size of the space to give you a larger and more practical way of accessing your loft space.

Our loft ladders come in a range of pre-manufactured styles that have been popular for years, in both aluminium and wood. However, we can also create something bespoke for you, to improve the access to your loft to your specifications.

We offer fold-up compact loft ladders and ladders that slide flat, so they can be chosen to fit your requirements, whatever the size of your loft and the space you have available. Safety is our priority and we can install handrails on the ladder, and incorporate the rung width that suits you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Interested to learn more about The Loftman Company and our wide range of loft services? Take a look at our most commonly asked questions below.
For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
