We will guide you through the whole process from start to finish and our experienced team will ensure you are happy every step of the way.

What we do

Many of our Manchester customers use their loft as a dumping ground. But what if it doesn’t have to be like that? Our loft boarding services will transform a dusty and potentially unsafe loft into a stable and secure surface area better suited to storing your belongings. Plus, they should all be easier to find than in a non-boarded loft.

Our loft hatches and loft ladders make accessing your loft easier too. Whether you want wood or aluminium ladders and a large or discreet hatch, we will come to your house in Manchester and measure up and quote exactly to your requirements.

We can also fit new NICEIC approved electrics to your loft, add insulation, or incorporate a velux or keylite window into the plans.

Loft Services

We provide several services to help our customers maximise the space in their homes.

Loft boarding is becoming more commonplace in homes across Manchester, as people start to see the benefits of using their loft more efficiently to store items securely and safely. Our loft boarding is 18mm thick, moisture-resistant and highly durable, making it the ideal material for achieving a flat surface that will last, regardless of what is put up there. It can generally be installed in a matter of just a few hours, leaving you with a loft that is much more fit for purpose. Our loft boarding support systems also come with a lifetime guarantee, rest assured we won’t void any new build house warranty either.

No one looks at the loft hatch when they buy their home, but you soon realise if it is too small when you start to want to store things up there. This is where we at The Loftman Company can help. We can measure, cut and install a brand new loft hatch that works for your storage needs, as well as making it much easier to get in and out of it.

All our loft hatches are unobtrusive and are fixed flush to the ceiling using airtight fixings, so you aren’t losing any heat or being left with an ugly box every time you look up.

We have pre-manufactured loft ladders in popular sizes and styles, but if you want something specific we can also create something bespoke to you. Our loft ladders come in either wood or aluminium and with a selection of wide or narrow rungs, as well as alternative ways of storing them away.

Some of our ladders will fold up nice and neatly into a compact space, while others use the rails to slide into itself for a flat narrow storage solution. Whichever you prefer for your loft, we can fit something to suit.

Our expert team are fully trained Velux Certified installers, meaning all Velux windows are installed to the highest standards. Whatever your budget or project, we will have the perfect window for you.

Whether it is additional lighting you need for your loft, additional electrics or rewiring, our professional electricians will be able to help. With over 20 years of experience and a NICEIC registered company, we can cater for even the most demanding jobs.

Using loft lining will make your house more energy efficient, keeping heat from escaping from your roof. If you are using your oft for storage, it will also protect your belongings from any chance of damp damage.

Properly insulating your loft can provide savings on energy bills and help protect stored items within your loft by helping to provide a steady air temperature. We use Earthwool® glasswool which is provided by Knauf, using up to 80% of recycled glass. It also uses ECOSE® technology which is a sustainable, bio based binder  that contains no added formaldehyde.

Installing balustrades or loft handles will help improve the safety of entering and exiting your loft as well as preventing accidents around the loft hatch, giving the owner peace of mind.

Adding shelving to your loft is a cost effective way of increasing storage in your house.  The storage solutions puts items in easy to reach locations, while providing the perfect solution for a cluttered house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Interested to learn more about The Loftman Company and our wide range of loft services? Take a look at our most commonly asked questions below.
For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
