Loft Boarding, Ladders & Hatches - Liverpool

The Loftman Company

At The Loftman Company we have over 25 years of experience in improving access and storage in Liverpool lofts. It is our mission to conserve fuel and power in buildings, so all the materials we use are energy efficient but don’t break the bank either.

We have laid in excess of 450,000 metres of loft boarding and flooring and conducted over 30,000 installations, making us the leading loft specialist in the UK. We are highly experienced in all areas of loft services and no job is too big or too small for us to tackle.

Regardless of the size of your loft, its shape or condition, we will provide you with a solution to your needs, and get the job done quickly and to the highest standard.

What we do

Our main services are loft boarding, to make a previously hazardous space safer and more usable, and loft hatches and loft ladders to improve the access to your loft – both for you and anything you plan to store up there.

However, for a full loft installation in Liverpool we can also add in better insulation, NICEIC approved electric connections and even a velux or keylite window for added practicalities.

Loft Services

We provide several services to help our customers maximise the space in their homes.

When it comes to loft boarding, you want something you know that will last and will provide a stable floor on which you can store your belongings as well as walk across to get to what you need. Our 18mm boards do that and more. They are durable and moisture-resistant so even if your roof gets a leak from the rain, the damage done to the loft itself will be minimal for homeowners in Liverpool.

Our loft boards are designed to be able to take on weight, and will withstand a lot of wear and tear, being of both high density and maintaining a high performance. high-performance, so you can rest assured that the work we do will last. Our loft boarding support systems come with a lifetime guarantee, rest assured we won’t void any new build house warranty either.

A drop-down loft hatch to get into your loft is a must. Having one that is large enough to allow you through it as well as anything you are carrying is even more important. Whatever the size of your current loft hatch, we can cut a hole to make it bigger and install a made-to-measure non-obtrusive loft hatch that is flush to the ceiling.

In addition, our airtight fixings will ensure no hot air escapes and you aren’t left with a draughty hole in your ceiling. Again, we use material that is of the highest standard and designed to be thermally-efficient and reduce your household carbon footprint.

Safety when accessing your loft is so important. You can rely on our selection of pre-manufactured or bespoke loft ladders to make sure you feel secure with every step. We will include a handrail too, if that is what you want, to make it even easier and provide stability when accessing the loft in your home.

We can install your new loft ladder in either wood or aluminium and design it to fold up or slide away, to suit your requirements, fixing it into the opening of your loft robustly and securely. It can then be easily taken down or put back up again with the minimum of time and effort, making going up into your loft a pleasure and not a chore.

Our expert team are fully trained Velux Certified installers, meaning all Velux windows are installed to the highest standards. Whatever your budget or project, we will have the perfect window for you.

Whether it is additional lighting you need for your loft, additional electrics or rewiring, our professional electricians will be able to help. With over 20 years of experience and a NICEIC registered company, we can cater for even the most demanding jobs.

Using loft lining will make your house more energy efficient, keeping heat from escaping from your roof. If you are using your oft for storage, it will also protect your belongings from any chance of damp damage.

Properly insulating your loft can provide savings on energy bills and help protect stored items within your loft by helping to provide a steady air temperature. We use Earthwool® glasswool which is provided by Knauf, using up to 80% of recycled glass. It also uses ECOSE® technology which is a sustainable, bio based binder  that contains no added formaldehyde.

Installing balustrades or loft handles will help improve the safety of entering and exiting your loft as well as preventing accidents around the loft hatch, giving the owner peace of mind.

Adding shelving to your loft is a cost effective way of increasing storage in your house.  The storage solutions puts items in easy to reach locations, while providing the perfect solution for a cluttered house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Interested to learn more about The Loftman Company and our wide range of loft services? Take a look at our most commonly asked questions below.
For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
