The Loftman Company brings over two decades’ worth of experience to every project, delivering an exceptional standard of work and a professional approach. From loft ladders and hatches to loft boarding, East Anglia customers can depend on our efficient service. We work with clients across the whole of the East Anglia area, from Norwich and Cambridge to Suffolk, helping property owners make the most of the space they have available to them.

By adapting your loft to make better use of the space, you can increase the square footage of your property and boost the value of your home. So many homes have loft space but it’s either inaccessible, or difficult and hazardous to use. From loft boarding and ladders to increasing the size or location of hatches to make using your loft easier, our services can help you make better use of this valuable area of your property.

Loft Services

We provide several services to help our customers maximise the space in their homes.

When it comes to loft boarding, East Anglian customers can take advantage of numerous benefits. It helps to make the property more energy efficient, keeping it warmer in winter and cooler in the summer. We use 18mm thick, moisture-resistant boards that provide durability for a long-lasting, high-performance result. Loft boarding can enhance your floor space by as much as 50% and creates more usable, functional space in your property, which in turn increases the value of your home.

All our loft hatches are installed according to the latest building regulation requirements, so we can help with everything from a standard loft hatch replacement to relocations or enlargements of the hatch. We use the highest quality materials and established installation processes to ensure your loft hatch is functional for the long term, and we can combine it with other services such as insulation to keep your home warm and comfortable. We ensure that we install loft hatches East Anglia customers can be proud of and that not only comply with the necessary standards, but also enhance your property.

Loft ladders are an essential element of your home, making it easier and safer to access your loft. We have a great deal of experience installing loft ladders in East Anglia, ensuring that they’re the right size, fit and style for your home. It doesn’t matter if you’re someone who only stores seasonal items in your loft or you need access several times a week – having a well-installed loft ladder makes all the difference to how you use this area of your home. So whether you’re looking to update a broken or old ladder for something new, or your current loft is without a ladder and you want easier accessibility, we can help.

Using loft lining will make your house more energy efficient, keeping heat from escaping from your roof. If you are using your oft for storage, it will also protect your belongings from any chance of damp damage.

Properly insulating your loft can provide savings on energy bills and help protect stored items within your loft by helping to provide a steady air temperature. We use Earthwool® glasswool which is provided by Knauf, using up to 80% of recycled glass. It also uses ECOSE® technology which is a sustainable, bio based binder  that contains no added formaldehyde.

Installing balustrades or loft handles will help improve the safety of entering and exiting your loft as well as preventing accidents around the loft hatch, giving the owner peace of mind.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Interested to learn more about The Loftman Company and our wide range of loft services? Take a look at our most commonly asked questions below.
For storage purposes, loft boarding doesn’t require you to have planning permission and is totally within your permitted development rights. However, if you’re turning a loft storage space into an actual living space afterwards, then this will require permission and compliance with a different set of regulations to ensure safety and protect your relevant warranties.
The floor joists in a loft can carry roughly 40 kg per square metre, so ensuring you keep your stored items under this will maintain the strength of your joists. It’s crucial to not overload your loft boarding to avoid the chance of any cracks in the ceiling below while protecting the joists from cracking – so try to spread out the weight in your loft as best you can.
It’s very important to us that our team have the required insurance, training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Such as Asbestos identification, working at height and managing risk through detailed assessments. This ensures we provide outstanding service and deliver your project safely.
If we wanted to ruin your loft insulation, we’d use standard loft boarding. But as loft experts, we steer clear of nailing loft boards directly onto joists, as this will just compromise the amount of airflow that passes through the layers of flooring and will eventually cause too much damage to the property.
If you are currently using this space for nothing, then loft boarding will almost certainly increase the value of your property. It’s said that installing loft boarding can add up to 50% more floor space, especially when combined with our range of fitted ladder options that fold and collapse.
When fitted properly by trained experts, loft boarding cannot in any way damage a property. On the other hand, if a new flooring system is fitted incorrectly, it can create a world of problems. For example, standard loft boarding can lead to a build-up of damp and heat loss throughout the home.
No, loft boarding is not expensive, espeically when you consider the energy saving potential and reduced heating bills.
Most lofts are perfectly safe, so don’t worry! But if you live in a pre-war-era home or you just need extra peace of mind before going ahead, we offer Structural Calculations and Certificates so you can get an indication of the maximum load limit.
